Seems Mongolia is very close to become an energy exporter instead of being an importer. In order to increase the energy production the Government resolved to develop number of projects including Shivee Energy.

Development of “Shivee Energy” project shall attract US$11 billion investment which is almost double Oyu Tolgoi’s investment was said during the consultative meeting of Mongolia-China Energy cooperation and Shivee Energy project feasibility study on Wednesday, April 6.

The project includes power station with capacity of 9240 MW, 1200 MW solar power station as well as air transmission line with total length of 1300 km and coal mine to produce 34 m tons.

The project shall ensure production and export of Shivee Ovoo coal, creating value added supply chain. Shivee Ovoo coal mine covers 29500 hectares with total reserves of 2708.7 m tons of coal consisting of three parts. The project shall provide jobs for 3500 Mongolians and involving around 20,000 during the construction.

Project shall be carried by Shivee Energy project unit from Mongolian side and State grid from China.

Participants of the consultative meeting expressed their opinion on development of the project as Mongolia to resolve without delay the relevant permits, improve relations and communications between state organizations. The investors are required to review the geological analysis and studies previously carried by Mongolian side.

Economists highlighted that the Ministry and relevant agencies must pay attention to meet the requirements of investors. If Mongolian side shall resolve the problems without delay the project shall move forward next year. Construction of the power station is scheduled for 48 months and commissioned in 2020 which means that Mongolia to open doors of energy exports instead of importing power from China at much higher price.

Energy minister D.Zorigt and management of the State Grid corporation of China attended the consultative meeting.
