The Ninth Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP9) is being held on 21-23 April, 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

 This is the first of the nine side events that precede the 11th ASEM Summit, and over 170 delegates from 32 countries and the European Parliament are participating.

The ASEP9 meeting has held two panel sessions: "“Connectivity and Effective Multilateralism" and "Partnership for the Future".

The Meeting was opened and chaired by H.E. Mr. Enkhbold Zandaakhuu, Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia. In his opening statement, the Chairman Enkhbold extended greetings to all the delegates and welcomed them in Mongolia, noting the ASEP9 will set the tone for the series of fora under the umbrella of the ASEM Summit to be organized in Ulaanbaatar in July this year. This was followed by President of Mongolia Mr. Elbegdorj Tsakhia's speech.

The President Elbegdorj said "Asia and Europe has much to learn from each other. ASEM is the most important dialogue platform that connects our two continents, as there are over 100 topics that gets discussed by not just the political leaders but citizens of all levels and interests of society." The President also emphasized that the people of Mongolia were highly delighted to be hosting the ASEM this year, and furthermore appealed the initiative to establish "ASEM Center" in Ulaanbaatar, from which the countries that will host the next Summits can get technical support.

The Meeting was also addressed by H.E. Mr. Pietro Grasso, President of Senate of the Italian Republic, President of the ASEP8 Meeting, who shared the experiences of the Milan meeting and elaborated on the future course of ASEP. President of Senate Grasso stressed that now is the time to give new momentum to Asia-Europe partnership, in the spirit of building a common future based on the shared past, and it is a case in point that this should start in Mongolia, a country with a great history committed to a renewed international role.

The 9th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting will have its Final Declaration approved and submit it for consideration in the 11th ASEM Summit, which will be held on July 15-16 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
