Preparations for ASEM11 continuing as scheduled

As of date more than 5,000 delegates, including Presidents of 15 countries, Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers of 21 countries, and heads of international organizations as well representatives of the media, are expected to attend the 11th ASEM Summit which will be held in Mongolia on July 15-16.

Foreign Minister L. Purevsuren, State Secretary of the Foreign Ministry D. Gankhuyag and Deputy Heads of ASEM Office of Mongolia L. Orgil and B. Bayasgalan have held the latest weekly media briefing "ASEM Information Hour" to inform about the preparations of the Summit and its side events.

In more than one year since the creation of a National Council to organize and manage the 11th ASEM Summit under a decree of the President of Mongolia, a number of actions have been taken, such as the construction of a villa to accommodate the high level delegates, the capacity building of the partner hotels, the upgrading of the city landscape and infrastructure, and also the training of professional workers and volunteers.

Airport renovations completed

First and foremost, the priority attention was given to the improvement of the facilities at the Chinggis Khaan International Airport, the gateway to Mongolia where the visitors will form their first impression of the country. For this purpose, the Civil Aviation Authority of Mongolia has invested 21.7 billion togrog for the construction of an additional 500 meter long landing and take-off strip,  and nine additional aircraft aprons were built anew, bringing the total aprons to 34, and also the transit lounge has been modernized as part of the airport renovation project.

Ulaanbaatar city maintenance works in progress

As part of the work to beautify the city of Ulaanbaatar, 13 streets and lots are being refurbished. The City Governor's office is also planning to erect a monument commemorating the 20th anniversary of ASEM.

ASEM Villa contructed, landscaping in progress

The construction and furnishing of the ASEM Villa township, where the Heads of State and Governments attending the ASEM Summit would be accommodated, has been completed--the landscaping and exterior design is ongoing. The staff who would be working in the township are being selected and trained. More than 40 partner hotels that plan to accommodate the official delegates have already started hotel booking and the e-hotel booking is being done online on iHotel website of www.asem11.mn.

'Nomads' Naadam' festivity to be held

An event of arts, culture, and sports entitled 'Nomads' Naadam' is being prepared for the Summit delegates, and as part of the preparations for the event, CCTVs are being installed at the Chinggisiin Khuree tourist camp and the official venue of the function. The preparation team briefed of installing lighting facilities, repairing the 3.4 km road to the camp and building a 400-vehicle parking lot.

Human resource training in 55% progress

As part of the work to train the necessary human resources for ASEM, the Labor Ministry has enrolled some 800 Mongolians in the professional training. Currently, 472 trainees have completed their training course, received the certificate, and 80% of which (377) have been placed in employment. Another group of 1,800 that has been hired by the ASEM partner hotels have been undergoing--700 hotel staff have finished their training and the remaining 1,100 will have been finished as of May 30.  

ASEM Press Center to be built in Shangri-La Mall

The furnishing of the ASEM Summit Press Center at Shangri-La Mall is underway. Almost 800 Mongolian and foreign journalists will be working at the press center, where the multimedia feed of the Summit can be processed or received from the European Broadcasting Union.
