The Government resolved to build refinery and piping in Bor-Undur soum of Khentii aimag during its regular session on Monday, February 1, 2016. The construction of the plant to take four years.

Based on the feasibility study of the refinery, it will increase the industrial output. The refinery is estimated to produce 2,5 m tpa of fuel. The raw materials to be supplied from domestic market.

Mongolia consumes 1,2 m tons of fuel annually. The decision to build the refinery in Bor-Undur is based on the detailed study as convenient location and economic resources said D.Erdenebat, Minister of Industry.

Minister provided additional information of the refinery and piping and the benefits.

According to the Minister the construction to start in 2016, the selection of the construction contracts to be announced publicly in Q3 or Q4. 

The refinery shall be based on the domestic resources. We have chosen five locations and the most convenient was Bor-Undur soum in terms of logistics and construction of piping to transport shale oil from Dornod.

For the refinery, it would be constructed with investment coming from private consortium. The state will not be involved in the project though the option of participation is still could be considered as a controlling shareholder. But the shale oil transporting pipe will be owned by the state, Minister said.
