Mongolia with livestock with over 55 m goes under criticism that there is no economic benefit of its livestock except just talks for many years to trigger meat exports.

Experts made an estimate that Mongolia can export up to 10 m heads of livestock even with 20 m of cattle. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture recently had delivered a statement that meat can be exported to China. N.Ariunbold, state secretary of the Ministry commented on this issue and said that there are positive steps to make it happen.

Three meat processing companies from western provinces were granted permits to export meat to China. The capacity of the plants is around 4 tons a day. The processed meat shall be transported through the Burgastai port of Gobi-Altai aimag.

Though China is strict about the meat exports as they requested to buy meat from western region only as eastern regions well known for spread of foot-and-mouth disease. Along with that Chinese requirements include exports of plant processed meat, Chinese authorities to conduct assessment and grant permit to Mongolian meat plants.

However mr N.Ariunbold, state secretary of the ministry clarified that all the requirements are not only specific to China but global.

Mongolia’s south neighbor China is a large marketplace for meat. Therefore, the standards must be complied accordingly to keep the market. Whatever happens, Mongolia is ready to export meat and all the requirements are met.

Meat exports shall start from the western regions and once the problems such as additional funding for meat processing, vaccination etc, shall be resolved, the other regions shall become source for exports as well.
