Minister of Industry D.Erdenebat attended today at the Government’s meeting

“Minister hour” and provided update on state policy and developments in the sector.

The Government had delivered a decision in July of last year to increase taxes imposed to 5 categories of goods. The categories are expanded now up to 28 with resolution 137. The maximum rate of taxes is 20% which is applicable to wood products, safety uniforms for mining and industry sectors, concrete etc.

The oil processing plant construction is ongoing in accordance with the schedule. Mongolian-Canadian, Mongolian-British and Mongolian-Chinese consortiums had submitted their proposals for the bid to invest in 2.3 m ton oil processing plant to be constructed in Bor-Undur soum of Khentii aimag. With start of the construction, 540 km long pipe shall be built to transfer oil from Tamsagbulag of Dornod to Bor-Undur of Khentii. The construction of pipe shall be executed with concession agreement was said.

Feasibility study of copper smelter is ongoing. Meanwhile company to perform feasibility study of steel smelter was selected said Minister.

For small and medium enterprise development was allocated MNT200 billion this year and MNT50 billion shall be distributed to entrepreneurs of 330 soums.

Entrepreneurs are supposed to submit their projects to aimag directly which shall select the potential ones and transfer to the Ministry.

One of the important issues to be resolved in the near future is establishment of non-mining export to support factories to export their goods. This activity targets to change the economy structure fully dependent from mining as well as enforcement of the policy to encourage and develop processing industry and export value added products to other markets.
