Election results are finalized

Mongolians voted yesterday (June 29, 2016) for their new Parliament and local government. The General Election Committee provided the preliminary results of the elections. MPP got 65 seats out of 76, DP 9, MPRP 1 and a single self-runner.

The election organized with 76 constituencies for which total of 498 candidates, including 12 parties, three coalitions and 68 self-runners run.

The 45 representatives for local government were elected, 34 from MPRP, 11 from DP.

129 of the candidates were female, 13 of them were elected.

1.910.878 voters registered nationwide and 72,1% had voted. The voting race was comparatively high this year, 75,5% in aimags and 68% in UB.

According to Election law, the General Election committee must submit the list of the new members within 15 days after the election date and submit to the president. Following the disclosure to the public, the first session of new Parliament is called when members take oath.

Newly elected members shall be issued temporary ID cards after the General Election Committee session.

DP was a majority in the parliament and local government, but this time MPP took over. Mongolia is ruled by MPP and DP in rotation. Since Mongolia made a transition to the democratic society, six elections of the Parliament were organized with unexpected results.

And now it’s MPP turn. There was a little caution that the results of the elections may not be accepted and protest may take place, despite both party leadership accepted the results of the elections, and no any complaints or statement was made by other parties. In 2008 after the elections, the election results were not accepted and due to huge rally five people lost their lives and Mongolia announced state of emergency. Two complaints were filed during the voting whereas the police resolved cases of cash distribution. One of the complaints related to MPP member D.Oyunkhorol who was elected. Although the primary court proved the violation, there is still time to appeal, so her name can’t be removed from the candidate list, reported the General Election Committee yesterday.
