The Ministry of Mines held today (April 27, 2016) its monthly Transparent Mining press conference.

Minister R.Jigjid and officials addressed the questions and concerns raised by the media and public.

During the presentation Minister of Mines reported status of coal exports.

The Ministry had planned to export 19.5 m of coal in the course of 2016 to our southern neighbor. Statistics for Q1 revealed that 5.2 m tons of coal was extracted, 3.3 m tons of which were exported.

The coal price went down in recent months reaching US$31 at border. Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi coal price totals to US$25. With the commencement of mining season, the officials reported that the export volume will go up starting from July until December.

Price of coking coal declined in period of December to February at the global market.

14 Mongolian entities are engaged in coal exports which had exported about two million tons in the first two month of 2016. Another 36 companies mine and supply to energy market. The thermal coal suppliers exported 1.7 m tons of coal in January-February of 2016. The Minister highlighted that the coal exports will go up in coming months.
