The election campaign shall officially finish at midnight on June 27.  Previously the candidates were launching their campaigns upon the receipt of the official confirmation, but this time the candidates were presented their mandates on June 7 and launched their campaigns on June 11. Since 2012 Mongolia has started to organize Parliamentary and local elections together. The soum and district elections shall be organized in October.

540 candidates and around 2200 candidates had run for Parliament and local elections accordingly in 2012. However, this year the number of candidates for Parliament was reduced to 498 from 11 parties, two coalitions and self-runners. The number of the candidates to run for local elections has also reduced to 272 in total, including 237 candidates from nine parties, 31 from two coalitions and four self-runners.

Generally there are many cases of violations such as adverse attacks against the competitor, defamations and as of today the Police authority had received over 600 complaints related to the elections. Most of them are reported to be violations related to billboards and physical items that said were damaged and wrecked.

The Information department of the General Police Authority reported that so far there are no any complaints or comments with the regards of the vote counting machines or delivery of the ballot papers to the countryside.

The election campaign of this year is very unique as it must run in compliance with the amended law on Elections. The law specifies the campaign duration which is much shorter than before as well as it also specifies certain restrictions. The new provisions of the law also restricted use of media, including websites.  During the previous elections, the candidate had a right to recall its candidacy a week prior of the election date which is now restricted by the provision that candidate cannot recall his candidacy at all once received the mandate.

So far, the General Election Committee eliminated only one candidate N.Burgedaa from MPRP who reported violated the provision of the Law banning promises such as handing out stakes, shares, promising to offer jobs. Although there are few complaints related to the candidates, there are no other decisions made to be eliminated from the candidacy.
