China to support protection of Mazaalai bear

Mongolia and China signed today the protocol on conducting the feasibility study to improve Mazaalai bear range. The study shall be financed by the Government of China.

Mongolian Government placed a request to China to carry the project that shall ensure protection of Mazaalai or Gobi bear which is listed in the Mongolian RedBook.

Specialists from the Ministry of Environment worked in the Special Protected Area of the Gobi and conducted extensive research on the bear range.

Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia Ts.Batbayar highlighted the importance of the study which is a great benefit for 28 bears left in Mongolia and the world.

Yang Qindun acting official of the Embassy of China Mongolia said that Mazaalai is one of the rare wealth of Mongolia and it is indeed very important to save. The range is very difficult to survive which creates complexity to breed this rare specie. Therefore, we will be working on this project to save Mazaalai bear”.

The project shall start in Q2 of 2017.
