The military technical cooperation between Mongolia and Russia goes back to 1921. Mongolia had received in December of last year 100 units of E-72A tanks, 40 units of BTR-70 M armored transport carrier, 20 units of BTR-80 from the Russian Defense Ministry Within the military technical assistance program.

According to armyrecognition.com Mongolia received T-72A military tanks on January 24, 2016 with accompanying equipment. The Minister of Defense of Mongolia and military attaché of Russia to Mongolia presented at the ceremony.

Relation between two countries goes back to communist era and the military technical cooperation has started since 1921. The military technical cooperation between two countries currently carried out within the assistance aid program between Governments signed in 2004 and mid term Russian and Mongolian military technical cooperation of 2014.

T-72A is the modernized version of T72 equipped with new laser range unit, 125  bb 2A46 main gun and V–46-6 engine body.
